National Security Technician Day

Jan 23, 2026

Today, as we celebrate National Security Technician Day, we want to recognize the hard work of front-line workers in our industry.

At Northland, our security technicians are the bridge between sophisticated technology and real-world safety. Whether they are handling intricate installations, complex configurations, or routine maintenance, they are hands-on with our clients every day.

“We proudly celebrate our Northland technicians who are the foundation of our success and the faces of our company in the field," says Pete Giambrone, Installation Manager. "Our technicians work long, demanding hours to install, maintain, and service our customer’s security systems, often behind the scenes, but always making a powerful impact. Their expertise, dedication, and commitment to safety help protect our customers and communities every day."

He goes on to say, "Northland is incredibly proud of our technicians who serve as our boots on the ground, representing our company with integrity and excellence. Thank you for all that you do – we truly couldn’t do it without you!"

By delivering systems built and maintained to best-in-class standards, our technicians provide more than technical expertise, they deliver peace of mind. And today, we are especially excited to spotlight two standout performers who are working hard every day to move our industry forward: Alonso Carrasco, Northland’s 2025 Technician of the Year, and Israel Ambriz, 2025 Most Improved Technician of the Year.

Technician Profile:

Alonso Carrasco: Technician of the Year (2025)
Alonso has spent 20 years working as a security technician and has been part of the Northland Controls team for 19 years and counting. When not on the job, he loves being outdoors and is always up for a good hike.

Israel Ambriz: Most Improved Tech (2025)

Isreal has spent the past four years working as a security technician and has been with Northland Controls for his entire security technician journey. When he's not working, you’ll likely find them immersed in all things cars.

Q&A: Insights from the Field

We sat down with Alonso and Israel to talk about what National Security Technician Day means to them and what keeps them motivated in the field.

1. National Security Technicians Day is about honoring the hard work of technicians in our industry. Why do you think that’s important?

AC: To let technicians know their hard work is seen and valued, that they’re not just an employee number, but a vital part of the company’s future.

IA: Recognizing technicians is essential because their hard work and dedication form the backbone of the industry. Acknowledging their contributions reinforces how critical their expertise and commitment are to both the organization and the success of the work they do.

2. Reflecting on your award-winning year in 2025, was there a specific memorable or proudest moment that stands out to you?

AC: Working long hours on one of our client’s projects to deliver three buildings on an extremely tight timeline, while building and wiring 20+ panels and guiding our LSP to the finish line to meet the deadline.

IA: Managing two jobs simultaneously as a non-lead technician—seeing both through from start to finish while meeting demanding timelines—was one of the most stressful periods of my 2025. At the same time, it became one of my proudest accomplishments, as it pushed me to grow, stay focused under pressure, and deliver successful results.

3. What has been the most impactful thing in advancing your professional growth?

AC: I give every customer the attention and respect they expect by listening carefully to their needs and expectations, then working collaboratively with them to find the right balance that will help strengthen our relationship.

IA: Exposure to a wide range of challenges in the field has been incredibly valuable. Working across different environments and problem sets forces you to think critically, adapt quickly, and continuously improve. Growth accelerates when the work isn’t repetitive and you push through obstacles rather than giving up. Applying these skills consistently helps build trust and respect with customers, regardless of the challenges encountered along the way.

4. What advice would you give to a new technician just starting their journey in physical security?

AC: My advice to new technicians: keep an open mind, there’s rarely only one way to do something. Listen to your leaders and peers; their experience and guidance will help set you up for success.

IA: To the new technicians: you will always face challenges out in the field; the best course of action is to keep an open mind, take notes, and never feel embarrassed to ask questions.

5. The physical security landscape is constantly shifting. In your experience, what is the biggest hurdle security technicians face today, and how do you personally stay resilient in the face of those challenges?

AC: Stay current with the latest security products and software. Also take advantage of training and certifications to work with new technologies. Don’t be afraid of new challenges, every problem has a solution.

IA: The biggest hurdle security technicians face today is how fast change takes place. Take notes when learning the newest procedures, products, software, and especially tools. Having these vital notes and equipment will keep you professionally prepared and many steps ahead when facing challenges.

While we’re spotlighting two outstanding individuals today, National Security Technician Day is to celebrate every security technician. No two days are ever the same, each bringing new challenges, evolving technologies, and opportunities to make a real impact, and we thank all security technicians for their commitment to keeping the communities where we live and work safe.
